Adios Svpply

When I heard today that Svpply was shutting down, I admit that it didn’t register as much of a surprise. Since being acquired by Ebay in 2012, it’s remained relatively stagnant. I get the impression that it wasn’t particularly successful, but I used the hell out of it.

There’s not much to say about the sunset that everyone saw coming, but before they go I want point out how wonderfully executed their iOS app was. It was minimal in all the right ways and felt like they truly understood the platform.

Svpply created navigation patterns that have been widely used (overused?) since, but at they time the app was as fresh as it gets. When iOS7 showed up, the app was already right at home. With zero updates in two years, it still feels absolutely current today.

So that’s it. I’ll be hunting for a service to replace Svpply, but in the meantime I’d like to see it get as much fanfare as it deserves as it takes its final lap.
